NEXT MONTHLY MEETING THURSDAY MARCH 23RD AT 2.30PM
-
Our March 2023 monthly meeting will be a presentation by the well known garden writer and presenter Geoff Hodge, who will be talking about 'Propagating - Plants For Free". We all want something for nothing and propagation is a simple way of producing lots of new plants – for almost next to nothing! Geoff will give you hints, tips and advice on vegetative propagation, splitting herbaceous plants and taking cuttings from a wide range of garden plants. Geoff has written a book on the subject – Propagation Techniques – for the Royal Horticultural Society so he know his stuff. This is a practical demonstration.

THE
100200 TREE PROJECT -
In response to ongoing concerns about climate change governments and county councils have been setting goals for new tree planting. Nationally the UK government set a target of 20 million new tree planted in the next 5 years, while Norfolk County Council has set a target of planting 1 Million trees in the next 5 years, roughly matching the Norfolk population of 1 million. As a Garden Club we have decided to set a more tangible target for new tree planting in our members gardens of 100 trees from our 100 members. Our target of 100 new trees started in January 2020 and while the pandemic has slowed our progress as nurseries were closed, we have as of February 2023 surpassed our initial goal well ahead of the target date, with a total of the 203 trees planted in gardens by our members in 2 years. This is an excellent contribution to helping to mitigate climate change locally by our members. .
