NEXT MONTHLY MEETING THURSDAY MAY 26TH AT 2.30PM
-
Our speaker for the May 2022 meeting is Jim Paine of Walnut Tree Nursery, near Attleborough. Jim's talk is entitled 'All about Trees - Right Tree, Right Place' which is very pertinent for club members as we continue our project to plant 200 trees in our garden over the next 5 years. Jim is a very experienced nurseryman who has worked with trees most of his career. Jim will talk about what trees work in the different places in the garden and how you should plant them and care for them. SO come along and hear from an expert what will be the best tree for your garden.

THE
100200 TREE PROJECT -
In response to ongoing concerns about climate change governments and county councils have been setting goals for new tree planting. Nationally the UK government set a target of 20 million new tree planted in the next 5 years, while Norfolk County Council has set a target of planting 1 Million trees in the next 5 years, roughly matching the Norfolk population of 1 million. As a Garden Club we have decided to set a more tangible target for new tree planting in our members gardens of 100 trees from our 100 members. Our target of 100 new trees started in January 2020 and while the pandemic has slowed our progress as nurseries were closed, we have as of February 2022 reached our initial goal well ahead of the target date, with a total of the 110 trees planted in gardens by our members in 2 years. This is an excellent contribution to climate change by our members. So encouraged are we that a new target of 200 trees in 5 years is now in place. Please let us know when you plant a new tree in your garden so we can reach our target as soon as possible.
